Rich and Custardy Lemon Dessert Sauce
A rich, custard-like lemon sauce, similar to a thin lemon curd, is prepared with eggs, lemon zest, juice, and sugar.

Instructions

Start simmering water in the bottom of a double boiler.

Off the heat, combine eggs and sugar in the top of the double boiler and whisk until smooth, then stir in lemon zest, juice, and butter.

Place the bowl over simmering water and cook for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring until the sauce coats the back of a spoon and a drawn line remains clear.

Serve over cakes, bread pudding, or fruit.
