Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 F.

  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt; cut in shortening until crumbly. Gradually add cold water, tossing until a dough ball forms.

  3. Roll out the dough to fit a 9-inch pie plate, transfer, trim, and flute the edge; chill the crust.

  4. For the filling, beat eggs until thick, then gradually add sugar, continuing to beat until light.

  5. Stir in sour cream, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Fold in the dark raisins.

  6. Spoon the filling into the prepared pie shell.

  7. Bake at 450 F for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 F and bake for 30 minutes more, or until a skewer inserted midway comes out clean.

  8. Cool for at least 15 minutes before serving warm or at room temperature, optionally with whipped cream or ice cream.
