Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300 F and line a large pan with aluminum foil.

  2. Melt butter with sugar in a medium pot over low heat.

  3. Stir in water and vanilla extract, then bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.

  4. Reduce heat to low and simmer, undisturbed, until a candy thermometer reads 238 F.

  5. Add your chosen food coloring.

  6. Immediately pour over popped popcorn and stir until evenly coated.

  7. Spread the colored popcorn onto the prepared pan and bake for 10 minutes.

  8. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool completely on the pan before breaking into pieces.

  9. Store any leftover popcorn in an airtight container.
