Bring water, vinegar, salt, and sugar or honey to a boil, stirring to dissolve solids, then cool the brine completely.

Trim the flower end from each cucumber; leave small cucumbers whole or cut larger ones into spears.

Place garlic and grape leaves into a clean glass quart jar or two pint jars.

Tightly pack cucumbers vertically into the jar(s), adding any remaining spices and herbs.

Pour the cooled brine over the cucumbers, ensuring they are fully submerged.
