Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 F and butter a 9 x 13-inch pan.

  2. Peel and slice potatoes 1/8-inch thick.

  3. Arrange the potato slices in reclining, staggered rows in the prepared pan, ensuring each slice is separated.

  4. Pour cream over the potatoes until the pan is half to two-thirds full, then season with salt, pepper, and optional marjoram.

  5. Bake for 1 hour, then top with cheese and continue baking until the potatoes are very tender.
