Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 3500F and coat a 13x9-inch baking dish with cooking spray.

  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and 3/4 cup sugar.

  3. Add room-temperature butter, milk, and eggs; beat with a hand mixer at medium speed for 4 minutes until combined.

  4. Pour batter into the prepared pan and arrange plum halves cut-side up, pressing them slightly into the batter.

  5. Combine 1/4 cup sugar and cloves with 3 tablespoons cold butter, cutting until crumbs form.

  6. Sprinkle these crumbs over the plums.

  7. Bake for approximately 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

  8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan to absorb plum juices.

  9. Optionally, sprinkle with confectioners' sugar, then cut into 12 squares.
