Plantain and Steak Tostones Recipe

Instructions

  1. In a small skillet, heat 2 tablespoons olive oil; sauté onions and garlic for 10-20 minutes, then season with salt and pepper.

  2. In a separate skillet, heat 1/4 cup olive oil. Peel and halve the plantains, then fry until golden brown and set aside, reserving the oil.

  3. Flatten the fried plantain halves and refry them in the reserved oil until crispy.

  4. Meanwhile, season steak with salt, pepper, and cumin. Cook in a skillet over medium-high heat until done; add cheese and cover to melt.

  5. Combine ketchup and mayo in a small bowl, mixing until a pink sauce forms.

  6. To assemble, spread the pink sauce on both plantain buns. Layer one bun with lettuce, tomato, the cheesesteak, and sautéed onions, then top with the other bun.
