Instructions

  1. Rinse and sort pinto beans, then soak them in water for at least 6 hours or overnight.

  2. Place the soaked beans, ham hocks, bay leaves, and red pepper flakes into a crock pot.

  3. Add 6 cups of water, cover, and cook on high for 6-8 hours until tender.

  4. Remove the ham hock and bay leaves; shred the ham hock meat and return it to the pot.

  5. Season the beans with salt and pepper to taste, mix well, and serve.
