Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350 F and prepare an 8-inch square pan by greasing and lining with parchment paper.
-
For the peppermint swirl, beat cream cheese, confectioners' sugar, salt, egg, extract, and food coloring until fluffy.
-
For the brownies, microwave butter, cocoa powder, and sugar in a large bowl, whisking until combined.
-
Whisk in the extract, then gradually whisk in eggs one at a time, followed by the salt.
-
Fold in flour and 1/3 cup crushed candy until just combined.
-
Scrape most of the brownie batter into the prepared pan, reserving 3/4 cup.
-
Dollop the peppermint swirl mixture over the brownie batter, then dollop the reserved brownie batter between the swirls.
-
Use a skewer to gently swirl the two batters together to create a decorative pattern.
-
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through.
-
At the 25-minute mark, sprinkle the remaining 1/3 cup of candy over the brownies.
-
Cool brownies completely, then lift from the pan, slice into 9 squares, and serve.
