Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.

  2. Combine bread flour, 1 cup sugar, and kosher salt in a large bowl.

  3. Warm milk to 115°F.

  4. In a separate bowl, combine remaining 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 cup warm milk, and yeast; let foam for 10 minutes.

  5. Whisk in the remaining 1 1/2 cups milk, melted butter, and egg.

  6. Stir wet ingredients into the dry ingredients.

  7. Knead dough on a floured surface for 3 minutes until smooth.

  8. Transfer to a greased bowl, cover with plastic, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled.

  9. After rising, divide dough into four equal pieces; pat each into a 4x9-inch, 1/2-inch thick rectangle.

  10. Roll each piece tightly from the long end and cut into five equal rolls.

  11. Dip cut sides of rolls in breadcrumbs and place crumb-side up on parchment-lined baking sheets, 2 inches apart. Repeat for all dough.

  12. Cover loosely and let rise again in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled.

  13. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
