Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 F and line a baking sheet with foil, then grease generously with 1 to 1 1/2 tablespoons of butter.

  2. Prepare the chicken by removing skin and visible fat, then prick the pieces in several places.

  3. Combine buttermilk and hot sauce in a covered container, add the chicken, coat thoroughly, and refrigerate for 2 to 4 hours.

  4. In a shallow bowl, mix together flour, paprika, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

  5. Remove each chicken leg from the buttermilk mixture, let excess drip off, then coat completely with the flour mixture and place in the prepared pan.

  6. Drizzle the coated chicken with melted butter.

  7. Bake for 25 minutes, then turn the chicken pieces and continue baking for an additional 20 minutes until juices run clear or chicken reaches 165 F.
