Preheat the oven to 350 F and position a rack in the center.

Grease an 8x8-inch pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides.

In a large bowl, whisk melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and vanilla for 30 seconds.

Whisk in the egg.

Sprinkle in baking powder and salt, whisking vigorously after each addition.

Fold in all-purpose flour until just combined, then add pecans and chocolate chips if desired; avoid overmixing.

Scrape the thick batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.

Bake for 24 to 27 minutes until the top is browned and crackly, and a skewer inserted in the center comes out with wet crumbs; cool completely on a rack.

Lift the blondies from the pan using the parchment overhang, then slice and serve.
