Preheat the oven to 375 F.

Cream butter, sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy.

Sift flour and salt together.

Gradually add the sifted flour mixture to the creamed ingredients, mixing gently after each addition, then stir in the walnuts.

Roll the dough into walnut-sized balls and place them 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, then transfer the hot balls to a wire rack to cool for 10 to 15 minutes.
