Old-Fashioned Muscadine Wine

Instructions

  1. In a sanitized gallon container, dissolve 6 cups sugar in 3 quarts filtered water.

  2. Add 1 quart mashed muscadine grapes and sprinkle 1 (1/4-ounce) yeast packet on top without stirring.

  3. Cover with cheesecloth and store in a cool, dark place (68-72 F) for 24 hours.

  4. After 24 hours, stir daily for one week, keeping the container covered in the cool, dark area.

  5. Strain the liquid into another sanitized gallon container fitted with an air lock.

  6. Add filtered water to fill the container and allow it to ferment in a cool, dark place for six weeks.

  7. After six weeks, strain the wine again into a clean gallon container and cap lightly for three days to stop fermentation.

  8. Bottle the wine with airtight caps and store in a cool, dark location.
