Old-Fashioned Apple Pie
An old-fashioned apple pie provides a delicious dessert, perfect for using a surplus of apples or as a special treat.

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 450 F.

Roll out two pie crusts; line a pie pan with one, chilling both until ready for assembly.

Peel, core, and slice the apples.

In a large bowl, combine sliced apples with lemon juice, then toss with brown sugar, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, cloves, and allspice until evenly coated.

Pour the apple filling into the crust-lined pan and dot with butter.

Place the second crust on top, seal the edges, trim excess, and crimp if desired.

Cut vents in the top crust and brush with egg wash if desired.

Bake on a rimmed baking sheet for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 F and continue baking for 50 more minutes until browned and bubbling.

Cool the pie for at least one hour before serving.
