Ohagi (Botamochi) Japanese Sweet Rice Balls

Instructions

  1. Wash both types of rice in cold water.

  2. Drain the washed rice and let it rest for 30 minutes.

  3. Place rice in a cooker with 3 cups of water, soak for 30 minutes, then start the cooking cycle.

  4. While rice cooks, grind walnuts with 2 tablespoons sugar, kinako with 1.5 tablespoons sugar, and sesame seeds with 2 tablespoons sugar, then place toppings in separate bowls.

  5. After cooking, let the rice steam for 15 minutes.

  6. Mash the sticky rice until uniform.

  7. Wet hands and shape the rice into oval balls.

  8. Coat rice balls with chosen toppings and serve.
