Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 F and line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, cutting corner flaps to fit.

  2. In a large, microwave-safe bowl, heat butter and sugar for 1 to 2 minutes, then stir.

  3. Once slightly cooled, stir in vanilla extract, cayenne pepper, ground cinnamon, and cocoa powder.

  4. Incorporate eggs one at a time into the butter-sugar mixture, mixing after each addition.

  5. Whisk together flour, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt in a separate bowl.

  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.

  7. Fold in chocolate chips and chocolate bar chunks, along with nuts if using.

  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smooth the top, and bake for 25 to 30 minutes until set.

  9. Allow brownies to cool slightly in the pan before lifting them out using the parchment paper.

  10. Cut the brownies once mostly cooled to ensure clean slices.
