Instructions

  1. Bring about 1 cup of water to a near boil. Reserve 1/4 to 1/2 cup, then use the remainder to warm the matcha bowl and soak the bamboo whisk for 30 seconds. Discard this water and dry the bowl.

  2. Place a fine-mesh strainer over the bowl and sift 2 to 4 scoops of matcha into it.

  3. Pour a couple of tablespoons of the reserved water (cooled to about 175 F) over the matcha.

  4. Grasping the whisk, gently whisk in circles to dissolve all matcha and eliminate clumps.

  5. Add the remaining reserved water to the bowl and whisk in a "W" pattern until a fine, tiny-bubbled foam covers the surface.

  6. Drink the matcha directly from the bowl or pour it into a small cup immediately.
