Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 325 F.
-
In a large resealable bag, combine 3/4 cup water, 1/3 cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoons sugar, 1 teaspoon ground ginger, 1 teaspoon dried crushed thyme, and 1 minced garlic clove. Pierce a 3-pound boneless rump roast all over with a fork.
-
Add the pierced roast to the bag, seal, and turn to coat. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight, turning the bag occasionally.
-
Remove the roast from the bag, reserving the marinade, and place it on a rack in a shallow pan.
-
Roast, uncovered, for about 2 hours.
-
Meanwhile, bring the reserved marinade to a rolling boil in a saucepan and boil for 1 minute.
-
Baste the roast with the boiled marinade during the final 30 minutes of roasting.
-
Remove from the oven, tent with foil, and let rest for 3 to 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
