Prepare a chilled glass by wetting the rim with a lime wedge and dipping it in salt, Tajin, or sugar if desired.

Combine 1 1/2 ounces tequila, 1 ounce triple sec, and 3/4 ounce fresh lime juice in an ice-filled cocktail shaker.

Shake thoroughly.

Strain the mixture into the prepared glass, with or without fresh ice, and garnish with a lime.
