Macaroni and Cheese With Bacon
An easy baked macaroni and cheese features a creamy sauce, crispy bacon, and a crunchy breadcrumb topping.

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 F (180 C).

Start boiling salted water, cook macaroni according to package directions, drain, rinse, and set aside.

Lightly grease a 2 1/2-quart baking dish.

Cook bacon in a skillet until crisp, then drain and set aside.

In a medium saucepan, melt 3 tablespoons of butter, then sauté green onions and garlic powder for 1 minute.

Stir in flour until smooth, cooking for 2 minutes.

Gradually add milk, stirring until the sauce thickens, then season with salt and pepper.

Reserve 1/2 cup of shredded cheese; stir the remaining 1 1/2 cups into the sauce until melted.

Combine the cheese sauce with the macaroni and transfer to the prepared baking dish.

Crumble and sprinkle the cooked bacon evenly over the macaroni.

Sprinkle the reserved 1/2 cup cheese over the bacon.

Melt 2 tablespoons of butter, drizzle over breadcrumbs in a bowl, and toss to coat.

Sprinkle the buttered breadcrumbs over the cheese and bacon.

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
