Mac and Cheese With Breadcrumb Topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and butter a 3-quart casserole dish.

  2. Melt 4 tablespoons butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir in flour, dry seasonings, and Worcestershire sauce; cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually add milk and cook, stirring, until thick and smooth, then remove from heat.

  3. Stir grated onion and cheese into the sauce.

  4. Combine macaroni and sauce in the prepared casserole dish.

  5. Melt 2 tablespoons butter, sauté garlic (if desired), and toss with breadcrumbs. Spread this mixture evenly over the macaroni.

  6. Bake for 30 minutes, or until bubbling and the topping is golden brown.
