Instructions

  1. Combine broth and rinsed lentils in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer, cover, and cook for 18-20 minutes until tender.

  2. In a separate large pan, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Sauté diced onion, minced garlic, diced bell pepper, salt, and pepper for about 3 minutes until softened.

  3. Stir tomato sauce, brown sugar, steak sauce, chili powder, ketchup, and smoked paprika into the sautéed vegetables. Cook on medium-low heat for 10-15 minutes to develop flavors.

  4. Add the cooked lentils to the sauce and stir. Cook for 2-5 minutes to allow absorption, then adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.

  5. Serve the lentil mixture on toasted hamburger buns, topped with sliced onions and mustard.
