Kulkuls (Indian Christmas Sweet Curls)
Kulkuls are a traditional Indian Christmas sweet, perfect for family preparation and long-term storage.

Instructions

Heat 1-inch of oil in a skillet to 350 F.

Combine flour and baking powder in a large bowl.

Incorporate butter into the flour until pea-sized.

Beat eggs, then add to the flour-butter mixture.

Mix in confectioners' sugar and coconut milk to form a soft dough.

Form 1-inch dough balls.

Grease a fork, flatten a dough ball onto its back, and press it into a rectangle.

Roll the dough from the fork's bottom into a tight curl with ridges, then repeat for all dough.

Fry kulkuls in batches for 2.5-3.5 minutes, turning until light golden brown; transfer to paper towels.

Combine granulated sugar and water in a saucepan; cook until syrupy, 4-6 minutes.

Coat cooled kulkuls in the sugar syrup.

Remove kulkuls and let them dry on a platter until the sugar forms a coating.
