Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F.

  2. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then mix in vanilla and ouzo.

  3. Gradually incorporate 4 eggs, one by one, into the butter mixture.

  4. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and soda.

  5. Slowly add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until a soft, malleable, non-sticky dough forms; allow it to rest.

  6. Pinch off walnut-sized dough pieces, roll each into a dinner knife-length cord, then fold in half and twist twice, or shape into coils or S-shapes.

  7. Prepare an egg wash by beating the remaining 2 eggs with a splash of water.

  8. Brush cookies with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.

  9. Bake on parchment-lined sheets for approximately 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
