Korean-Style Rice on the Stove

A simple stove-top method yields perfectly cooked Korean rice without a rice cooker.

Instructions

  1. Rinse rice under running water until clear.

  2. Combine rinsed rice with 2 1/2 cups of water in a pot, ensuring water is about 1 inch above the rice level.

  3. Bring the rice and water to a boil over high heat.

  4. Reduce heat immediately to a low simmer, cover the pot, and steam for 12 to 15 minutes without lifting the lid.

  5. Turn off heat, keep covered, and let steam for 5 additional minutes.

  6. Fluff with a fork before serving.
