Klara's Traditional Croatian Apple Strudel Recipe - Strudel od Jakuba

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F.

  2. Lay one sheet of filo dough on a dry dish towel and lightly brush it with melted butter.

  3. Repeat with four more filo sheets, layering and buttering each, ensuring the fourth sheet is also buttered.

  4. Spread half the sliced apples along one long side of the stacked filo in a 4-inch strip.

  5. Sprinkle half the nuts, raisins, zest, sugar, and breadcrumbs over the apples.

  6. Using the towel, roll the strudel jelly-roll style.

  7. Tuck the ends, brush the strudel with melted butter, and place it seam-side down on a parchment-lined pan.

  8. Repeat steps 2-7 with the remaining five filo sheets and filling.

  9. Bake for 45 minutes, or until golden brown.

  10. Cool the strudel, then dust with confectioners' sugar before serving.
