Jessica's Chocolate Covered Cherry Cookies

Preheat the oven to 350 F.

In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.

In a separate mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy, then mix in egg and vanilla.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, beating until smooth.

Shape dough into 1-inch balls, place on an ungreased baking sheet, and make a thumbprint in the center of each.

Drain maraschino cherries, reserving their juice, and place one cherry into each cookie indentation.

In a small saucepan, melt chocolate pieces with sweetened condensed milk over low heat. Stir in 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon of the reserved cherry juice, adding more if a thinner consistency is desired.

Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the chocolate topping over each cherry.

Bake for 10 minutes, then transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
