Japanese Pan-Fried Rice Cakes

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a skillet.

  2. Combine 2 cups steamed Japanese rice with 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour in a bowl, then knead and form into small, flat rounds.

  3. Fry rice cakes in the hot oil over low heat for 4-5 minutes per side until heated through. Increase heat to medium and continue frying, flipping once, until golden and crispy.

  4. While cakes cook, prepare the dipping sauce by combining 1 tablespoon granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon soy sauce.

  5. Serve the fried rice cakes with the dipping sauce, optionally garnished with chives.
