Instructions

  1. Combine whiskey, chopped onion, and garlic in a 3-quart saucepan; simmer for 10 minutes until onion is translucent.

  2. Add ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, vinegar, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, smoke flavoring, and hot sauce.

  3. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 15 to 25 minutes until reduced and thickened, stirring occasionally.

  4. Stir in additional whiskey if a stronger flavor is desired. Cool, then serve or store refrigerated for up to one week.
