Italian Hot Dog Recipe

A New Jersey specialty, these Italian hot dogs feature grilled frankfurters, fried potatoes, and sautéed peppers and onions served in a bun.

Instructions

  1. Heat a grill or grill pan to 350-375°F and lightly oil it. Grill hot dogs for 5-7 minutes until charred, then set aside to keep warm.

  2. In a deep skillet, heat 1/2 inch of oil to 350°F over medium-high heat. Fry potatoes in batches for 4-6 minutes until golden brown and tender, then drain and salt.

  3. Remove all but 2 tablespoons of oil from the skillet. Add onions, peppers, and Italian seasoning, cooking for 5-7 minutes until softened.

  4. Return the potatoes to the skillet, then season with salt and pepper.

  5. Spread mustard on buns, add a hot dog, and top with the potato, onion, and pepper mixture. Serve immediately.
