Hungarian Chicken Paprikash Recipe

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a large lidded pot or skillet, then sauté onion until translucent for about 5 minutes.

  2. Brown chicken pieces lightly on both sides, in batches if needed.

  3. Add green pepper, tomato, garlic, and paprika, then season with salt and pepper.

  4. Stir in water, bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and cook for 35 minutes or until chicken is tender.

  5. Remove chicken to a warm platter and keep covered.

  6. Whisk sour cream with flour in a small bowl, then temper the mixture with some pan juices.

  7. Return tempered sour cream mixture to the pan and simmer until the sauce thickens.

  8. Return chicken to the pan to rewarm, then serve over noodles or rice.
