Instructions

  1. Combine oil and popcorn kernels in a 3- to 4-quart saucepan, ensuring kernels form a single layer on the bottom.

  2. Cover the pan, place over medium-high heat, and shake occasionally until popping begins.

  3. Once popping starts, lift the pan slightly from the heat and shake continuously for 3 to 4 minutes until popping significantly slows.

  4. Remove the pan from heat, keep covered for 1 minute to allow any remaining kernels to pop, then transfer the popcorn to a large bowl.

  5. Serve plain or season as desired.
