Instructions

  1. Preheat vegetable oil to 375 F.

  2. In a measuring cup, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water; let sit 5-10 minutes.

  3. Combine flour and salt in a bowl, then add the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.

  4. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm area for 1.5 hours, or until doubled.

  5. Prepare the syrup by combining all ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil, then simmer on low for 10-15 minutes until syrupy, without frequent stirring.

  6. Spoon tablespoon-sized dough portions into the hot oil, frying for approximately 2 minutes per side until golden brown.

  7. Drain fried dough on paper towels, then drizzle with the prepared syrup and serve immediately.
