How to Make a Cafe Latte
An American-style caffe latte combines espresso with foamed milk and an optional flavored syrup for a comforting beverage.

Instructions

Add water to your espresso machine's boiler and coffee grounds to the portafilter.

Tamp the coffee grounds 2 to 3 times, then lock the portafilter into the group head.

Place a cup under the group head and pull an espresso shot for 25 to 30 seconds; mix in flavored syrup if desired.

Pour milk into a glass measuring cup or small metal pitcher and insert the steam wand just below the surface.

Engage the steam wand, keeping its tip to the side to create a vortex, and move the container to foam the milk until it doubles in size, then turn off the steam.

Pour the bottom two-thirds of the steamed milk into the latte cup, using a spoon to retain the microbubbles.

Top the latte with the reserved microbubbles.
