Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 13x9-inch baking pan with foil and spray with nonstick cooking spray.

  2. Beat butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, then mix in flour and salt until just incorporated.

  3. Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 18 to 20 minutes until light golden brown; cool completely.

  4. While the cookie base cools, combine unwrapped caramels and 2 tablespoons of cream in a microwave-safe bowl.

  5. Microwave the caramels, stirring every 30 seconds, until fully melted and smooth.

  6. Pour the melted caramel over the cooled shortbread, spread into an even layer, and refrigerate for 1 hour to set.

  7. Melt chocolate or candy coating until smooth.

  8. Using the foil, remove the caramel-covered shortbread from the pan and cut into finger-width bars.

  9. Dip each bar into the melted chocolate until fully coated, then place on a foil-lined tray.

  10. Refrigerate the tray for 10 minutes to set the chocolate.
