Homemade Triple Sec

A simple homemade orange liqueur, reminiscent of triple sec, can be easily prepared with minimal ingredients and makes an ideal gift for margarita enthusiasts.

Instructions

  1. Peel two navel oranges and combine the fresh peel, dried bitter orange peel, and vodka in a 1-quart jar.

  2. Seal the jar, shake, and infuse in a cool, dark place for 2 weeks to 1 month, shaking daily.

  3. Once infusion is complete, start boiling water in a saucepan, then stir in sugar until dissolved; simmer for 5 minutes, then cool completely to create simple syrup.

  4. Strain the orange peels from the vodka through a cheesecloth-lined strainer.

  5. In the cleaned jar, combine 3/4 cup of simple syrup with the infused vodka and shake for 30 seconds.

  6. Taste and add more simple syrup as desired for sweetness.

  7. Transfer the finished orange liqueur to a bottle or jar with a tight-fitting lid.
