Homemade Sprinkles

Homemade colored or flavored sprinkles can be created in custom colors to adorn cakes, cookies, and ice cream.

Instructions

  1. Line 2 to 3 baking sheets with parchment paper and prepare an equal number of piping bags with a 4 mm circle tip.

  2. In a stand mixer, combine confectioners' sugar, water, corn syrup, and extract; whisk until a thick, pipeable paste forms, adjusting consistency with small amounts of water or sugar as needed.

  3. Divide the paste into separate bowls, adding food coloring to each, ensuring the color is slightly darker than desired as it will lighten upon setting.

  4. Fill the prepared piping bags with the colored mixtures and pipe straight lines, 1/2 inch apart, onto the parchment-lined baking sheets.

  5. Allow the piped lines to air dry at room temperature for at least 12 hours.

  6. Once completely dry, use a knife or bench scraper to cut the sprinkle lines into desired lengths and store them in an airtight container.
