Instructions

Start boiling water in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, then add granulated and brown sugar, stirring until fully dissolved to form a syrup.

Reduce heat to a simmer, stir in pumpkin puree, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and ginger; simmer for 5 minutes.

Remove from heat, cover, and allow the mixture to steep and cool for 2 to 3 hours.

Strain the cooled syrup through a cheesecloth-lined fine-mesh strainer, ensuring approximately 2.5 cups of spiced syrup.

Stir in the rum and vanilla extract until thoroughly blended.
