Homemade Philly Cheesesteak Recipe

A classic deli-style steak and cheese sandwich features thinly sliced ribeye, melted cheese or provolone, and a toasted hoagie roll.

Instructions

  1. Heat a griddle or skillet over medium heat, butter and toast rolls until golden, then set aside.

  2. Increase heat to medium-high. Add oil, then sauté onions for about 8 minutes until soft and browned. Remove onions from pan.

  3. Season steak with salt, pepper, and garlic. Sear steak in the pan for 1-2 minutes per side until cooked through, working in batches if needed.

  4. Return onions to the pan. Break up steak and combine with onions.

  5. Divide the mixture into two portions in the pan. Top each with 2 slices of cheese. Add a teaspoon of water, cover, and cook until cheese melts.

  6. Transfer servings into toasted rolls and serve immediately.
