Homemade Mashed Potatoes and Variations

Instructions

  1. Peel and cube potatoes into 2-inch pieces. Place in a large saucepan, cover with water, and add 2 teaspoons of salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes until tender.

  2. While potatoes cook, heat milk in a small saucepan until hot, then set aside.

  3. Drain the cooked potatoes, then return to the hot pan for 20-30 seconds to dry.

  4. Mash the potatoes using a masher or ricer.

  5. Add the warmed milk, melted butter, and black pepper.

  6. Continue mashing until smooth, adding salt and additional milk as needed.

  7. Transfer to a serving bowl and serve immediately.
