Ham With Beer and Brown Sugar Glaze

A flavorful ham, slow-cooked in beer and then baked, is finished with a sweet and savory beer, brown sugar, and mustard glaze.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.

  2. Place ham flat-side down in an uncovered roasting pan, pour 1 cup of beer over it, and bake for 1 to 1.5 hours, basting every 15 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 135 F.

  3. While ham bakes, combine brown sugar, flour, dry mustard, and vinegar with 1-2 tablespoons of beer to create a smooth, thick glaze.

  4. Remove ham from oven, score the fat in a criss-cross pattern (unless spiral-sliced), and optionally stud with cloves. Spoon the prepared glaze over the ham.

  5. Return ham to oven and bake for 10-15 minutes more, or until well glazed and the internal temperature reaches at least 140 F.

  6. Slice and serve the ham, drizzling with cooking liquids if desired.
