Ham and Broccoli Casserole

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 F and butter a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.

  2. Boil broccoli in one inch of water for 3 to 4 minutes until tender, then drain it and place in the prepared dish with the ham.

  3. Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan, stir in flour for 1 to 2 minutes, then add dry mustard, salt, and pepper.

  4. Gradually whisk in milk and optional minced onion, cooking until the mixture thickens.

  5. Stir cheese into the sauce until melted, then remove from heat and pour over the ham and broccoli.

  6. Combine 2 tablespoons of melted butter with panko breadcrumbs, then sprinkle this mixture evenly over the casserole.

  7. Bake the casserole for 20 to 25 minutes.
