Gujiya With Coconut Filling

Instructions

  1. Combine flour and ghee to create a crumbly dough, then gradually add water and knead until firm; cover and set aside.

  2. Toast coconut on low heat until pale reddish. Separately, dissolve sugar in water in a pan, cooking until slightly thickened.

  3. Stir the toasted coconut, raisins, cashews, almonds, and cardamom into the syrup, then cool the mixture.

  4. Divide the prepared dough into equal portions, then roll each into a 4-5 inch circle.

  5. Place a tablespoon of filling in the center of each circle, fold to form a semicircle, and pleat the edges to seal; repeat for all circles.

  6. Heat oil or ghee over medium flame, then deep fry the gujiyas until golden.

  7. Drain the fried gujiyas on paper towels and store in an airtight container.
