Ground Beef Wontons

These ground beef wontons are a versatile snack, meal, or party finger food, often enjoyed during the Japanese Obon festival.

Instructions

  1. Sauté chopped onions and celery in olive oil until translucent, seasoning with salt and pepper.

  2. Add ground beef, season again, and cook until browned and cooked through.

  3. Drain the cooked beef mixture in a paper towel-lined colander for 5-10 minutes to remove excess oil and cool.

  4. Place a heaping teaspoon of meat mixture onto a wonton wrapper, then moisten two adjoining edges with water.

  5. Fold and firmly press the dry edges over the meat to seal the wrapper into a triangular shape.

  6. Repeat filling and sealing wontons until all mixture is used.

  7. Heat canola oil in a medium pot to 375 F, or until a test wrapper quickly bubbles and floats.

  8. Fry wontons in batches (no more than 4 at a time) for 30-40 seconds per side until golden.

  9. Remove fried wontons from oil and drain on paper towels.

  10. Serve cooled wontons with or without dipping sauce.
