Grilled Oysters

Grilled oysters offer a smoky taste and are simpler to prepare than their raw counterparts.

Instructions

  1. Heat a gas or charcoal grill to medium-high.

  2. Rinse 10 to 12 fresh oysters; discard any that do not stay closed when gently squeezed.

  3. Place oysters, cupped side down, on the grill grate.

  4. Cover and cook until oysters open and the meat is opaque, 5 minutes for smaller oysters and 8 to 10 minutes for larger ones.

  5. Remove oysters from the grill using tongs.

  6. Remove the top shell and detach the oyster from the bottom shell with a sharp knife.

  7. Serve hot or warm with 2 tablespoons melted butter, hot sauce, lemon wedges, or other desired toppings.
