Grilled Dungeness Crab

Grilled Dungeness crab, prepared simply with a flavorful baste, can utilize either live or frozen crab for a delicious meal.

Instructions

  1. Start boiling a large pot of water.

  2. Combine vinegar, sugar, oil, ginger, jalapeño, garlic, and cilantro in a bowl for the baste; cover and set aside.

  3. Add crabs to the boiling water, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.

  4. Remove crabs, then clean: pull off the belly tab, lift the shell, remove innards and gills, then wash, drain, and pat dry.

  5. Preheat the grill to medium-high.

  6. Place crabs on the grill, cook with lid closed, and baste after 2 to 3 minutes.

  7. Flip crabs at the 6-minute mark, basting again.

  8. Grill until leg meat is opaque, approximately 10 to 12 minutes total.

  9. Serve crabs with remaining baste, lemon wedges, and drawn butter as desired.
