Grilled Apple Pie Recipe

Preheat a charcoal or gas grill for indirect cooking to 400 F.

Combine 1 1/2 cups flour and salt; cut in shortening until coarse crumbs form.

Gradually stir in ice water to create a dough ball, then wrap and chill for 20 minutes.

Roll dough into an 11-inch circle and fit into a 9-inch metal pie plate, trimming edges as desired.

In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons flour, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves.

Toss apple slices with lemon juice in a large bowl, then add the flour-spice mixture, tossing to coat.

For the topping, combine 1/2 cup flour with brown sugar and cut in butter pieces until crumbly.

Sprinkle this butter mixture evenly over the apples in the pie crust.

Place the pie on a cookie sheet and bake on the grill over indirect heat for 50 to 60 minutes until apples are tender and bubbly.
