In a medium saucepan, heat butter, then sauté ham, onion, and garlic until onion softens.

Stir in chicken broth, chopped green and red tomatoes, and jalapeño. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.

Blend soup until nearly smooth using a blender or immersion blender, optionally removing some ham pieces for garnish before blending.
