Greek-Style Meat Sauce for Pasta (Makaronia me Kima)

Instructions

  1. Start boiling water for pasta.

  2. In a saucepan, brown ground beef, adding 2 tablespoons olive oil if lean. Sauté onions until translucent, then add garlic for one minute.

  3. Stir in wine and simmer for two minutes.

  4. Add parsley, cinnamon, oregano, mint, salt, pepper, tomato sauce, and water. Simmer the sauce uncovered on low heat for at least 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. Stir in ketchup if using, and butter; cook for two minutes.

  6. While the sauce simmers, prepare pasta as directed on its package.

  7. Serve pasta with meat sauce and grated cheese.
